WORLD KIDNEY DAY 2024

March 14th of every year was set aside by the United Nations to create awareness and combat one of the world’s deadliest diseases.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is estimated to affect more than 850 million people worldwide and resulted in over 3.1 million deaths in 2019 according to experts.
Presently, kidney disease ranks as the 8th leading cause of death, and if unaddressed, it is projected to be the 5th leading cause of years of life lost by 2040.The theme for the 2024 World Kidney day is:
“Kidney Health for All – Advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice”.
With provision of Healthcare Services and Advocacy as part of our core objectives, the George Mangibo Reach Out Foundation is leaving no stone unturned in keeping you up to speed with relevant information aimed at educating you on how best to stay healthy.

Our Chief Executive Officer, Asikiye Victory Kennedy George, who is a registered nurse with fourteen years working experience, has put together this relevant health tips on how best to take care of your kidneys to prevent CKD.
KIDNEY HEALTH TIPS:
These few tips will be helpful to keep your Renal Organs (Kidneys) healthy.
First of all, the kidneys have three main functions in the human body, namely:
i) formation and Secretion of Urine.
ii) Secretion of Renin – an Enzyme that helps to regulate our blood pressure.
iii) Secretion of Erythropoietin – an Hormone that increases the production of Red Blood cells in our body that helps to maintain the normal haemoglobin level or Red blood Cell count in our body.
1. Regular checking of your blood pressure.
2. Regular blood glucose level or sugar check.
3. Work on body weight reduction if obese.
4. Avoid excess weight gain and over sleeping.
5. Stay away from too much intake of salt and sugar, especially raw salt.
6. Avoid excessive use of Analgesics or Pain Relief medications.
7. Exercise regularly and avoid too much stress.
8. Say no to self medications including use of unverified herbal medications.
9. Carry out routine health check and prompt visitation to a Hospital if you feel unwell.
10. Eat healthy and take enough water to keep you hydrated.
11. Avoid too much Alcohol and Tobacco products intake.
12. Treat Sexually Transmitted
Diseases or Infection and any other infection(s) and stay safe.
Note, there is no cure for kidney disease yet, and its treatment can be tiring, exhausting and very expensive.
 
So, it’s better to prevent the occurrence to avoid being a Victim of Kidney Disease, because Health is Wealth. God bless you all!
